Common Questions

What is bisexuality?

A person who is bisexual is someone who has a romantic attraction or sexual attraction towards people of the same gender and of the opposite gender, or regardless of any gender. When people are attracted to others regardless of their sex or gender identity, it can also be called pansexuality. Pansexuality may be considered a branch of bisexuality, or a sexual orientation on its own[1] .

Why are people bisexual?

Most scientists agree that sexual orientation is due to “nature and nurture”, a mixture of genetic, hormonal, environmental, and biological factors. There is no evidence to support that parenting or early sexual experiences determine sexual orientation. Most importantly, just as heterosexuality and homosexuality are not choices, neither is bisexuality[2].

Am I bi?

If you feel that you can feel attraction to more than one sex and/or gender, you are bisexual. As someone who is bisexual, this does not mean you have to feel the same level of attraction towards all genders, or have a romantic history that includes both genders [3].

Who are bisexual people?

Bisexuality is a sexual orientation, meaning who people are attracted to. This is different from gender expression, gender identity, and biological sex. Thus, bisexual people can be men, women, transgender (see Transgender), or genderqueer. They can also be monogamous, abstinent, or polyamorous (see Polyamorous) [4].
