SSWANA

SSWANA stands for South & South West Asian and North African and students across the University of California system are adopting this new acronym for an underrepresented but large community. The term unites Middle Eastern and South Asian students together to form a more inclusive alliance for empowerment, education, and advocacy. Unlike many mainstreamed LGBT communities, [SSWANA] queer organizations mount a critique of racism, transnational capital, and heterosexist U.S., Indian, Pakistani, and [North African] nationalisms. [1] These resources cater towards the unfulfilled needs of SSWANA people in terms of social, academic, and personal aspects.
